Saint Valentine’s Day, more commonly referred to as just Valentine’s Day, was first established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD. The day commemorates the Catholic martyr Saint Valentine, who secretly performed marriages in Ancient Rome. This act was in direct defiance of the Roman emperor Claudius II, who outlawed marriage after deciding that single men made better soldiers.
When Valentine’s actions were discovered, the emperor ordered that Valentine be immediately put to death.
Today, the romantic February 14th holiday is a worldwide commemoration of love and affection, celebrated in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, and Australia. If you really want to impress that lucky man or woman in your life, take them on one of the unique Valentine’s Day dates we have outlined below.
Carriage Rides: What is more romantic than a horse-drawn carriage ride? Not much! So snuggle up with your favorite guy or gal and enjoy the ride.
Hot-Air Balloon Rides: It’s exciting and it’s not something that your significant other will expect.
Amusement Parks: If you both love thrill rides, this is a no-brainer. And try your best to win your lucky girl a teddy bear while you are there.
Helicopter Rides: This can be fairly expensive, but it is well worth it!
Ice Skating: Ice-skating is a fun event for all ages. And if either you or your date doesn’t know how to skate, lessons can be just as fun. Then, afterwards, snuggle up by a nice warm fire and sip on some hot chocolate. Now doesn’t that sound romantic?
Rent a Limo: If you are feeling like a fancy night out on the town is more your style, then a limousine is the only way to go.
Dinner at Your Place: This is a classic. If you really want to make that lucky man or woman in your life feel special, nothing says “I love you” more than a romantic candlelit dinner for two. And if you really want to make the night special, put Box Hill crabcakes on the menu!
