Earlier this week Box Hill Crab Cakes had the honor of providing their famous crab cakes to the Steve Smith Foundation Fashion Show held at the American Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore. The fashion show benefited House of Ruth, a non-profit organization focused on offering aid to victims of intimate partner violence. Box Hill and other top restaurants in the area provided food and drink for the charity event as a way to give back to the community and help contribute to community activism.
Steve Smith Family Foundation
The Steve Smith Foundation supports causes important to the Baltimore Ravens wide receiver and his family. Since signing a deal with the Ravens in 2014, Smith has expanded his foundation’s focus to include the Baltimore area as well as his previous location of Charlotte, North Carolina. Domestic violence and child health and wellness are the main focuses of the Foundation.
House of Ruth
Founded in 1977, the House of Ruth has been dedicated to not only helping the victims of domestic violence but ending violence against women and their children. House of Ruth opened the first crisis shelter for victims of domestic violence in the Baltimore area, and created an 84-bed shelter with six transitional apartments in 1998. They are recognized as one of the country’s most comprehensive domestic violence centers.
