Blue crab season will be here in just a few short weeks!
We have great news for all our crab lovers out there! Many crabbing experts call April 1 the official beginning of blue crab season. That means we’re less than two weeks away from the prime deliciousness of fresh crabs out of the Chesapeake Bay! We’re jumping the gun a little bit, but the official start of spring on Sunday has us already thinking about warmer weather and spring and summer crab cake feasts.
Counting Down to Blue Crab Season
The reason we say we’re jumping the gun a little bit is because the crabs that are picked out of the bay early in the season are the ones that burrowed in the bay floor during the winter months, and can be a little smaller and less succulent than what’ll start showing up around June. That being said, any crab that we pick will be fresh as can be and of the highest quality available.
Enjoying the Season
While our favorite bay-dwelling crustaceans make their way back to our beloved Chesapeake, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the season in the meantime. When the calendar flips to spring on Sunday, that’ll mean that warm weather is right on its way. (Although there is currently a snowstorm forecast for Sunday…we don’t know who let that happen.)
