Try Box Hill’s Chicken Parmesan over Spaghetti, just one of our delicious Italian Specialties

In addition to our delicious crab cakes and hearty soups and sandwiches, Box Hill has an extensive offering of hot and savory Italian dishes. Even if you’re a fan of pasta, you may not know the little differences between stuffed shells, manicotti, eggplant parmesan, and lasagna. Read below to learn what makes each dish special, and discover which dish you want to try at your next Box Hill visit!

Spaghetti

The classic pasta dish, spaghetti, is long, thin and cylindrical noodles that are great to wrap around your fork and take a big bite of. In addition to traditional spaghetti, Box Hill adds extra flavor by offering Chicken Parmesan, Veal Parmesan or Eggplant Parmesan over spaghetti. Chicken Parmesan, or any similar dish, is a breaded chicken breast, or veal cutlets or a slice of eggplant, covered in tomato sauce and parmesan, mozzarella, or provolone cheese. Box Hill also offers grilled chicken over spaghetti, if you’re looking for something a little bit lighter but equally delicious.

Italian Manicotti

Manicotti, Italian for “little sleeve,” features large pasta tubes, often ridged, which are stuffed with cheese and baked. The filling is ricotta cheese, often mixed with chopped cooked spinach. The baked pasta is covered in tomato sauce. This dish is excellent for the cheese-lover in your party!

Lasagna

One of the oldest types of pasta, lasagna is a type of wide, flat pasta which is layered between sauces and ingredients such as meat, vegetables, and cheese. The pasta is baked in a square, casserole-style dish topped with melted cheese. The finished product is cut into single-serving square portions. Lasagna is great for the person who wants lots of flavor and texture in their pasta dish.

Ravioli

Ravioli is a type of pasta consisting of a filling, often ricotta cheese, but sometimes meat as well, enveloped in thin pasta dough. Unlike manicotti, the filling is not visible until you bite into the ravioli. Yum! The ravioli come in square, circular, or semi-circular shapes. Ravioli are a suitable dish for the pasta lover who wants a more manageable amount of pasta and filling for their dinner.

Stuffed Shells

Stuffed shells are very similar to manicotti, except for a few small details. While manicotti is always long, round tubes of pasta, stuffed shells are just what they sound like: stuffed conchiglioni pasta, named after their similarity to conch shells. Because these round shells are smaller than the tubes of manicotti, they fit less ricotta, vegetable or meat stuffing. However, these compact treats pack a little more of a punch than the less defined rolls of manicotti.

Now that you know the little differences between each delicious plate of pasta come on into Box Hill and try our classic, hearty versions for your next dining experience!
