Yet, in the United States, Mother’s Day started nearly 150 years ago. When an Appalachian homemaker named Anna Jarvis organized a day to raise awareness of poor health conditions in her community. She believed this cause would be best advocated by mothers. So she decided upon herself to call that day “Mother’s Work Day.”
